BILANG pagtalima sa utos ni President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. na wasakin ang illicit trade networks sa bansa at pangalagaan ang government revenues, isang joint enforcement operation ang inilunsad ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) sa lalawigan ng Pampanga.

Sinalakay ng mga tauhan ng BOC ang hinihinalang illegal cigarette manufacturing site sa Mexico, Pampanga, at nadiskubre ang nagaganap na unauthorized local production ng sigarilyo.

Bago ang pagsalakay, nakatanggap ng intelligence report ang BOC hinggil sa isang bodega na nasa Lot 2645, Panipuan, Mexico, Pampanga kaya agad nagtatag ng law enforcement operation ang mga operatiba ng Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service of the Manila International Container Port, Enforcement and Security Service, MICP Examiners, at Legal Service, sa pakikipagtulungan sa Philippine Coast Guard at Philippine National Police–Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, kasama ang local barangay officials.

Sa paunang imbestigasyon, nabatid na ang nasabing bodega ay nagsisilbing illicit cigarette manufacturing plant na walang valid permits or authority to locally manufacture cigarettes.

Nadiskubre ng mga awtoridad ang locally manufactured cigarettes na may tatak na “Two Moon,” kasama ang cigarette-making machines at mga manufacturing paraphernalia na may brands na Mighty, H&P, Playboy, at Carnival, na nagpapakita ng aktibong on-site production activities.

Ayon sa BOC, ang nabanggit na brands ay kahalintulad din ng mga marka ng sigarilyo na nasabat sa hiwalay na enforcement operation sa Batangas, na nagpapakita na posibleng e-link sa distribution and supply chain ng illicit cigarettes na kasalukuyang sinisiyasat ng mga awtoridad.

Ayon kay Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno, “Illicit cigarette manufacturing undermines legitimate businesses, deprives the government of much-needed revenues, and poses serious risks to public health.”

“In line with the President’s directive, the Bureau of Customs will relentlessly pursue those involved in smuggling and illegal manufacturing through sustained enforcement and close coordination with our partner agencies,” sabi pa ni Nepomuceno.
