MULING bubuhayin sa Senado ang panukalang kamatayan sa mga mapatutunayang sangkot sa heinous crime sa pagbubukas ng 18^thCongress.

Sinabi ni Senador Leila de Lima na napapanahon nang ibalik muli sa bansa ang pagpapataw ng parusang kamatayan na tunay na solusyon umano para maiwasan ang mga krimen.

“In these times where great powers are concentrated on a single human being who with mere words – God forbid – can masterfully orchestrate a holocaust, we should be ever vigilant, ever firm with our stand against its re-imposition,” sabi ni De Lima.

“I believe that what deters and resolves crimes is a well-oiled and thoroughly functioning criminal justice system, one that ensures swift and ascertain accountability for the crimes committed and the imposition of commensurate penalties to the offenders,” dagdag pa nito.

Sa kasalukuyang Kongreso, naisapasa ang pagbuhay sa death penalty para sa mga heinous crimes kabilang ang drug-related offenses sa Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso ngunit nabigong matalakay sa committee level sa Senado.

Naniniwala si De Lima na ngayon na ang tamang panahon para buhayin ang parusang kamatayan lalo pa at suportado ito ng mga bagong senador kabilang sina Senators-elect Christopher Go, Ronald de la Rosa, Francis Tolentino, at Pia Cayetano.

Gayundin, suportado rin ito nina Senador Cynthia Villar, Sonny Angara, Koko Pimentel III, Manny Pacquiao, Sherwin Gatchalian, Panfilo Lacson at Senate President Vicente Sotto III.
