HINILING ni Senador Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara sa local government units (LGUs) na magpasa kaagad ng ordinansa upang protektahan ang mga health worker at iba pang frontliners, kabilang ang persons under investigation (PUIs), persons under monitoring (PUMs) at kanilang pamilya laban sa lumalalang diskriminasyon.
Sa pahayag, sinabi ni Angara na kailangan nang kumilos ang LGUs upang protektahan ang lahat ng frontliners, biktima ng corona virus 2019 (COVID-19) sa mga taong nangungutya sa pamamagitan ng ordinansa.
Sinabi ni Angara na nakatanggap siya ng mga ulat hinggil sa diskriminasyon at karahasan laban sa mga frontliner na lumalaban sa COVID-19 sa kabila nang paulit- ulit na apela ng pang-unawa at compassion sa kanila.
“We must protect our health workers, all of our frontliners during this period of COVID-19. Every day they are risking their lives to care for all of those who are in need of medical attention. The challenges that they face today are overwhelming.
For the sacrifices they are making to keep us safe and protected, I have nothing but respect for them,” ayon kay Angara.
“On our part as policymakers, we should do our part by coming up with measures to protect them especially during this critical period. Acts of discrimination have no place in our society,” dagdag ni Angara. ESTONG REYES
