HINILING ni Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri kay Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Boy Locsin na imbestigahan at pauwiin si Marichu Mauro, embahador ng Pilipinas sa Brazil dahil sa pagmamaltrato sa kanyang Filipina service staff.

Sa pahayag, sinabi ni Zubiri na sumabog ang insidente nang mahuli sa security camera si Mauro na minamaltrato ang kanyang kasambahay na nag-viral sa buong mundo.

“While watching the video, I was horrified to see the brazenness of our ambassador to Brazil in physically maltreating the embassy service staff. I cannot imagine how people in her position could enact such violence to the very people they are sworn to protect,” ayon kay Zubiri.

Sinabi ni Zubiri na paano tayo makahihiling sa dayuhang employers para sa ating overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) na irespeto ang kanilang karapatan at ‘wag silang saktan kung iyong mismong opisyal na dapat magbigay ng proteksiyon at ipagtanggol ang nang-aabuso sa kanila.

“This is such a terrible incident and a black eye on our image abroad,” ayon kay Zubiri.

Ipinakita ang video footage ng GloboNews, isang Brazilian news channel noong Linggo at ipinalabas ng international news organization kaya kumalat sa buong mundo.

Ipinakikita ng footage na ilang beses minaltrato ni Mauro ang biktima, ayon kay Zubiri.

“I call on our Department of Foreign Affairs to conduct a thorough investigation on the matter and prosecute the official if found violating our labor laws and the Kasambahay Law. I commend, however, the swift action of Sec. Teddy Boy Locsin in recalling Ambassador Mauro to face investigations in the Philippines,” dagdag ni Zubiri.

“I will see to it the logical conclusion of this incident”ayon kay Zubiri saka hiniling sa embassy service staff na lumantad at kumprontahin ang kanyang abuser. (ESTONG REYES)
