INIHAYAG ni Senador Joel Villanueva na kailangan pangunahan ng pamahalaan ang pagpapanatili ng pagtitiwala ng negosyo at paglikha ng trabaho sa pamamagitan ng paglalaan ng mas malaking pondo sa infrastructure tulad ng public health facilities at serbisyong pangkalusugan.
Sa pahayag, sinabi ni Villanueva, chairman ng Senate committee on labor, matapos iulat ang unemployment report ng Philippine Statistic Authority (PSA) na bumaba ang kawalan ng trabaho sa 8.7% nitong Oktubre o mahigit 3.8 milyong Pilipino, dahil marami ang humintong maghanap ng trabaho.
“We are bothered by the fact that the latest data clearly reflects how the pandemic is manifesting on the psyche of our workers, who decided to stop looking for work at all. We cannot afford to let the morale of our labor force to slump further, that is why our government should intervene by increasing spending to restore business confidence. By spending effectively on our people, our government will lead the way for business confidence to be restored, and once that happens, jobs opportunities for our workers will certainly follow,” ayon kay Villanueva.
“The ball is in the government’s court now. It is the government which has the capacity to get our economy back on track. We should continue spending on social services such as healthcare for our people, while infrastructure spending should be our top priority next year to create jobs for our workers,” dagdag niya.
Ayon sa PSA report, mas kakaunting Pilipino ang nawalan ng trabaho o nawalan ng negosyo nitong Oktubre dahil mas maraming mamamayan ang humintong maghanap sa iba’t ibang kadahilanan kabilang ang pagbalik sa paaralan o sa dating trabaho na pinatay ng umiiral na digital shift.
Tinatayang aabot sa 8.7% sa bilang ng labor force ang walang kinikita nitong Oktubre, na katumbas ng 3.8 milyong Pilipino na bumaba mula sa 10% o 4.6 milyon nitong Hulyo.
Sumirit sa 17.7% ang unemployment rate o 7.2 milyon ang nawalan ng trabaho nitong Abril habang pinaiiral ang enhanced community quarantine.
Hinikayat din ni Villanueva ang pamahalaan na maging estrikto sa pagpapatupad ng COVID-19 protection protocols saka sinabing magnenegosyo ang publiko sa mga establisimyento na alam nilang ligtas sa corona virus. (ESTONG REYES)
