INAPRUBAHAN ng Senado bilang Committee of the Whole ang resolusyon na humihikayat kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na bawiin ang kanyang kautusan hinggil sa pagpababa ng taripa para sa imported pork.
Ang resolusyon na iniharap ni Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon ay suportado ng 17 pang senador.
“This can potentially spell the demise of our local hog industry, most of them what we call backyard hog raisers,” saad ni Drilon.
Sa Executive Order No. 128 ni Pangulong Duterte, ibinababa sa 5-10 percent mula sa 20-30 percent ang taripa sa imported na karne ng baboy sa loob ng tatlong buwan ng implementasyon nito ay sa 10 percent sa ikaapat hanggang ika-12 buwan ng kautusan.
“The Department of Agriculture failed to establish through accurate and reliable data that the country will have 388,790 MT of deficit in the supply of pork for the year which necessitates the increase in MAV,” nakasaad sa resolution.
“Such policy will only result in loss of billions of government revenue and the flooding of the market with imported pork,” dagdag pa sa resolusyon. (DANG SAMSON-GARCIA)
