TARGET ng Quezon City government na makahanap ng bagong pool legends na kakatawan sa bansa sa international competitions, sa 1st QC 10-Ball Open na nagsimula kahapon (Hunyo 21) hanggang 27 sa Hard Times Sports Bar.
Nais ng naturang Local Government Unit (LGU) na makatuklas ng mga bagong pool legends gaya nina Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes, Francisco ‘Django’ Bustamante at iba pa mula sa 64 players na maglalaban-laban para maiuwi ang kauna-unahang Quezon City 10-Ball Open title.
“They have given our country an identity and have represented us throughout numerous championships internationally. So much so that were able to produce some of the sports’ Hall of Famers and legends, from Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes and Francisco ‘Django’ Bustamante, to Ronnie Alcano and Dennis Orcollo, and so much more reputable names in the industry,” pahayag ni Mayor Joy Belmonte.
Dagdag niya, ang billiards ay bahagi na ng kultura ng mga Pinoy at kabilang sa popular sports sa bansa sunod sa basketball.
Naniniwala rin si Belmonte na sa pagtatapos ng torneo ay makadidiskubre sila ng mga bagong talented cue artists.
“Our goal with this auspicious event is to flick our searchlights to uncover raw pool artists, and to place Quezon City on the map as the billiards capital of the Philippines, and hopefully, of the world,” aniya.
“With the amount of pride that the sport and our talents have given our nation, my support for billiards and especially our players, never ceases,” sabi pa ng mayora, kasabay ang pagtitiyak na ipatutupad ang istriktong health and safety protocols sa torneo na mapapanood din via live streaming ng Sharks sa www.facebook.com/sharks9ball at www.youtube.com/Sharks9Ball mula alas-2 ng hapon.
Nagpasalamat naman si Belmonte sa Billiard Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP) sa patuloy na pagdaraos ng mga torneo sa bansa kahit sa panahon ng pandemya, pati sa lahat ng mga kalahok sa pagpapakita ng kanilang walang sawang suporta at pagmamahal sa sport. (ANN ENCARNACION)
