PLANO ng Philippine national women’s football team na palitan ang taguri sa koponan bilang ‘Malditas.’
Sinabi ni PWFT head coach Marlon Maro, na kasama sina assistant Rose Ton Barinan at midfielder Roselle Bedano na dumalo sa kada Martes na Philippine Sportswriter Association (PSA) Forum, matagal na niyang pinag-iisipan kung bakit negatibo ang tawag sa koponan na malayo sa tunay na pag-uugali ng mga miyemro nito.
“I don’t know how it started. I don’t know this moniker and of this thing. But personally, if you ask me, I don’t like this word ‘Malditas’ because that does not represent the beauty of being a Filipina. It does not exactly represent the real Filipinas. Now that I am back with the team, I told them to stop using the word, try to look for a new one that will truly represent the Filipinas,” litanya ni Maro.
“I personally asked them to forget being called Malditas. Because they are beautiful, they are good, very intelligent, and they’re very disciplined. So I think, we have to look for a name that we will be very proud of, of our Filipina,” dagdag niya.
Kamakailan lang ay nagkuwalipika ang Pinay football squad sa AFC Women’s Asian Cup, ang huling qualifying tournament tungo sa World Cup.
Gaganapin ang Asian Cup sa Enero 20 hanggang Pebrero 6 sa India at ang mangungunang limang koponan ay hahakbang sa prestihiyosong FIFA Women’s World Cup sa Australia sa 2023.
Nakamit ng national women footballers ang silya sa Asian Cup sa ikalawang sunod na taon matapos manguna sa Group F ng qualifiers sa Tashkent, Uzbekistan. (ANN ENCARNACION)
