BILANG simbolo ng kanilang patuloy na pasasalamat sa overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), sinabi ni Senator Cynthia Villar na idaraos nila ang 10th OFW and Family Summit sa November 19, 2021 (Friday), na gagawing “virtual” dahil sa pandemya.
“This is our way of saying ‘Thank You’ to our OFWs, our modern-day heroes. An OFW was the first customer of my husband, former Senator Manny Villar, when he first started his housing business,” ayon kay Villar.
Ipinahayag ng senador na ito ang taunang handog ng Villar Family kasama ang Villar Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance (Villar SIPAG) sa ating OFWs na nagsasakripisyo para mabigyan ang kanilang pamilya ng disente at maginhawang buhay.
“Through the dollar remittances they sent back home, our OFWs also help keep the country’s economy afloat amid the pandemic,” sabi pa ni Villar.
Hindi gaya noong mga nakaraang taon kung saan nagtutungo ang libo-libo OFWs at kanilang pamilya sa World Trade Center sa Pasay City para lumahok sa summit, niliwanag ni Villar na gagawin ito virtually.
“We are doing this to keep everybody safe and protected since the coronavirus is still around us although our health officials and health experts have been reporting a downtrend trend of cases of COVID-19,” sabi ni Villar.

Ayon kay Villar, ang “Masiglang Buhay Sa Makabagong Panahon” ang tema ng summit sa taong ito. Naniniwala siya na napapanahon ang paksa sanhi ng pagsisikap ng lahat na magkaroon ng normal at maligayang buhay sa kabila ng coronavirus pandemic na lumumpo sa ekonomiya sa buong mundo.
Inaasahang libo-libong OFWs at kanilang beneficiaries ang sasali sa virtual event kung saan maaari nilang muling makasalamuha ang private at government institutions tungkol sa financial services, social benefits, legal assistance at iba pa nilang concerns. (ESTONG REYES)
