NANANAWAGAN si Senador Imee Marcos para sa mas malalim na imbestigasyon sa agricultural smuggling at papanagutin ang mga sangkot sa iregularidad sa loob ng unang 100 araw ng bagong administrasyon.
Iginiit ni Marcos na mapatutunayan ng bagong administrasyon na sinsero ito sa pagsugpo sa misdeclaration at undervaluation of agricultural imports sa paghahain ng aktwal na kaso laban sa mga smugglers.
“Illegal imports have pulled down local farmgate prices and discouraged farmers from pursuing their livelihood,” pahayag ng chairperson ng Senate economic affairs committee.
Subalit inamin ng senadora na hindi maihahain ang mga kaso hangga’t hindi nalilinawan ang mga pagdududa sa listahan ng mga hinihinalang agricultural smugglers at protectors.
“Some people should be on the list, while the inclusion of others is now being argued,” diin ni Marcos.
Batay sa ulat ng Senate Committee of the Whole, 22 katao kabilang ang ilang opisyal ng DA at attached agencies nito, Bureau of Customs, at lokal na opisyal.
“Among all local officials, Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco has taken the toughest stand against smuggling by immediately filing grave charges against notorious syndicates. On the other hand, why have the highest officials in DA been let off the hook?” tanong ni Marcos.
Nanawagan din si Marcos kay incoming NICA chief, retired police general Ricardo De Leon, na i-reconcile ang actual list ng intelligence agency.(DANG SAMSON-GARCIA)
