ITINUTURING ngayon ng Department of National Defense ang mga criminal syndicate na nagpapanggap na mga legitimate operator ng Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) na isang national security concern.

“We should stop these syndicated criminal activities operating out of our base, which weaken our financial standing, our country ratings, [and] corrupt our society,” ayon sa inilabas na pahayag ni Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro kahapon Araw ng Kalayaan.

“Now, I do not characterize these establishments as POGOs. These are not POGOs. POGOs, traditionally, are business processing outsourcing,” paliwanag ng kalihim.

Inilabas ang nasabing statement matapos madiskubre ng mga tauhan ng Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) ang mga military uniform na hinihinalang gamit ng Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) ng China.

“Dapat itigil na natin ang mga syndicated criminal activities na kumikilos sa loob ng ating lupain, na nagpapahina sa ating financial standing, ang credit ratings at credit standing ng Pilipinas, at kinokurap ang ating lipunan,” ayon kay Teodoro.

“For example, there are legitimate POGOs where the bets and the payoffs are taken from other countries like horse racing sa Europe, [and] sports betting; only the matching of bets and payouts are done here but the bets originate [from] outside [the country]. Yung POGO na alam natin [dito sa Pilipinas] na operated to evade the ban on gambling in China, the bets originate here. So, may diperensya.”

Kasalukuyang sinisiyasat ng mga awtoridad at inaanalisa ang mga katibayan na nakalap sa POGO na sinalakay kamakailan ng PNP at PAOCC sa Tarlac at Pampanga. (JESSE KABEL RUIZ)
