NANGHIHINAYANG si Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte sa P2 billion nawawala sa Pilipinas kada araw dahil sa ipinatutupad na restrictions para mapigilan ang pagkalat ng coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“According to the Secretary of Finance, araw-araw ngayon hanggang matapos ‘tong covid, araw-araw we are losing P2 billion na pera para sana ‘yun sa mga tao,” ayon kay Pangulong Duterte sa kanyang public address, Lunes ng gabi.

“The workers, the Filipino workers would have earned that money kung ang ekonomiya natin gumagalaw,” dagdag na pahayag nito.

Nauna rito, sinabi ng National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) na umabot na sa P1.4 trillion sahod ang nawala sa mga Pinoy dahil sa 2020 lockdown bunsod ng COVID-19.

Sa isang virtual briefing, sinabi ni Acting Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Karl Kendrick Chua, natapyas ang halagang P801 billion sa paggastos noong 2020, o halos P2.2 billion kada araw.
Pagdating naman sa impact nito sa trabaho at multiplier effect, umabot sa P1.4 trillion o P2.8 billion kada araw ang nawala.

Sumatutal, umabot sa P23,000 kada empleyado ang nawala sa kanila.

Nagpatupad ng Enhanced Community Quarantine ang Pilipinas noong Marso at patuloy na umiiral ang ibang lockdown hanggang sa ngayon.

“This translates to significant income loss, significant employment loss, and for the most affected sectors, hunger and possibly higher poverty,” ani Chua sa presentasyon ng datos sa ikaapat na kwarter at full-year 2020 economic data.

“Going forward, we cannot afford any more prolonged quarantines or risk aversion. We have to strike that better balance and we will continue to use data both from the economic and the health side to inform our decision and our recommendation to the president,” dagdag pa ni Chua.

“The year 2020 will be remembered as the most difficult year of our lives. The road ahead is challenging, but there is light at the end of the tunnel,” ayon pa sa kalihim. (CHRISTIAN DALE)
