Bulakenyos are Gearing for a Cleaner and Greener Future

The grand opening of EcoMamoni’s Guiguinto branch on October 13, 2024, represents a crucial advancement in environmental advocacy within the region. This new venue aims to provide technical support and learning opportunities for advocates focused on recycling. EcoMamoni is recognized for empowering communities through financial support and grants for environmental projects, making it an essential resource for local initiatives.

The event was attended by notable figures, including Vice Governor Alexis Castro of Bulacan, accompanied by Guiguinto Municipal Vice Mayor Banjo Estrella, and Councilors Larra Ventura and Anabelle Garcia. Their presence highlights the local government’s commitment to fostering sustainable practices. Additionally, the Bulacan Union of Cooperatives, represented by Evangeline Ventura Villanueva, reinforced the collaborative spirit necessary to tackle environmental challenges.

To enhance the event’s significance, an art exhibit by Klaypel showcased stunning artworks made from recycled paper by survivors of Typhoon Ondoy.

The driving force behind EcoMamoni includes dedicated private citizens like Roland Marling, Criselda Marling, and Jeoff Solas. With backgrounds in various NGOs, they emphasize the urgent need for action against climate change.

The Philippines is among the most vulnerable countries to climate change. According to a World Bank report, the country has experienced an average temperature increase of approximately 0.648°C over the past 60 years. Projections indicate that annual mean temperatures could rise by 0.9°C to 2.3°C by 2050. Furthermore, extreme weather events are becoming more frequent; the Philippines has seen a significant increase in tropical cyclones with wind speeds exceeding 150 kph during El Niño events.

Just last month, the group initiated various clean-up drives and envisions to facilitate more environmental projects like tree planting and other workshops to emphasize the need to promote proper waste disposal and recycling.

As we confront these challenges, it becomes increasingly clear that unity among citizens and government is essential. A study by the Asian Development Bank warns that without adequate climate adaptation investments, the Philippines could lose up to 6% of its GDP annually by 2100 due to climate-related impacts. The opening of EcoMamoni’s Guiguinto branch is just the beginning of a collective journey toward a cleaner and greener future for all Bulakenyos.

EcoMamoni Guiguinto branch is located on the 2nd floor of Tarhata Building 1, MacArthur Hiway, Brgy.Sta.Rita, Guiguinto, Bulacan (near NLEX Station.Rita toll gate)
