SUPORTADO ni Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte ang Bicol River Basin na maaaring makatulong na mabawasan ang insidente ng pagbaha sa mas pinabuting storage capacity ng mga ilog at lawa.

Ito’y matapos banggitin ni Presidential Adviser for Bicol Affairs Marvel Clavecilla ang Bicol River Basin project na nahinto dahil sa kakulangan ng pondo at social impact sa mga residente na nakatira sa nasabing lugar.

“There was that suggestion, Mr. President that three barangays in Baao should be developed as an impounding area and they call it the Phantom Baao Lake. Meaning to say, during heavy flooding the water will be impounded in that area and during dry season, we can plant other crops there. But it will have a social impact in some three barangays in Baao, they considered that so they abandoned that plan. However, we can pursue that,” ayon kay Clavecilla.

Sinuportahan naman ni Pangulong Duterte ang suhestiyon ni Clavecilla.

Iyon nga lamang, kailangan na makumbinsi ang mga residente na ang paglipat sa mas ligtas na komunidad ay makabubuti sa kanila.

“If it is a good plan and you are really determined to build your catch basin dito, you just have to move the people but convince them na ang social impact niyan is housing…you have to equal the quality and the kind of house that they have,” ayon sa pangulo.

Aniya pa, dapat lamang na maisulong ang Bicol River Basin dahil maaari rin itong makabawas ng pagkalugi dahil sa sakuna at iba pang panganib.

Samantala, nangako naman si Clavecilla na makikipag-ugnayan sa provincial government, Department of Public Works and Highways, at Department of Environment and Natural Resources para sa rehabilitasyon ng Bicol River Basin. (CHRISTIAN DALE)
