NAGPALABAS ng babala si Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Jaime Morente laban sa fake immigration agents na nangha-harass umano sa foreign nationals sa bansa.
Sa isang advisory, inihayag ni Morente na nakatanggap siya ng mga ulat na may “unscrupulous individuals” na nagpapakilala bilang mga BI agent at nangha-harass at nanghihingi ng pera sa mga dayuhan.
“A victim sent us a letter for verification of a notice he received via courier, inviting him to the BI office in connection to a purported investigation, lest be charged and deported,” ani Morente.
Ang nasabing sulat ay pinirmahan umano ng isang special agent na si Special Agent Juanito Balmas na hindi naman empleyado ng BI.
“The victim was being asked to appear before the BI on a Saturday,” ayon pa kay Morente. “We have no office during Saturdays. We suspect that whoever was trying to harass him will meet him nearby and possibly extort money from him,” dagdag pa niya.
Kasabay nito, nilinaw niya na “legal notices” ang ipinadadala sa foreign nationals gamit ang BI’s official letterhead na pirmado ng lehitimong empleyado ng ahensiya. (JOEL O. AMONGO)
