ISANG maugong na panawagan laban sa mga politikong sangkot sa kalakalan ng droga sa bansa ang ipinaabot kahapon ng isang kongresista sa Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) at Philippine National Police (PNP).

Giit ni Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers, tutukan ang mga narco-politicians na aniya’y gumagamit sa kampanya ng pondong mula sa mga sindikatong sangkot sa pagbebenta ng droga.

“Don’t let your guard down during the anti-drug campaign during the election campaign period.”

Paniwala ni Barbers, mayroon pa rin nalalabing mga narco-politicians sa kabila pa ng pinaigting na drug war ng administrasyong Duterte.

Pag-amin ni Barbers na tumatayong chairman ng House Dangerous Drugs Committee, may natanggap siyang impormasyon kaugnay ng mga sindikatong nagbibigay ng pondo sa mga politiko sa hangaring makakuha ng proteksyon sa sandaling maupo sa pwesto ang “tinutulungang” kandidato.

“Some drug lords are buying influence from bets in the forthcoming polls. They are actively pushing their merchandize in the drug market, to provide funds for their patrons,” ani Barbers kasabay ng panawagan sa PDEA, NBI at PNP para sa mas mahigpit na pagbabantay sa nasabing kalakaran.

“I am urging officials of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, the Philippine National Police, the National Bureau of Investigation, and other government anti-drug agencies not to let their guards down in their campaign during the election period,” dagdag pa niya.

Hirit pa ni Barbers, hindi maitatanggi ang sabwatan ng ilang politiko at mga sindikatong sinasamantala ang pagiging abala ng mga law enforcement agencies sa mga paghahanda ng pamahalaan sa nalalapit na halalan.

“It is a fact that drug lords befriend and buy influence from some politicians and other government officials – from the national to the local level – who they expect in return to coddle and protect them in the future in exchange for drug money in their campaign kitties.” (BERNARD TAGUINOD)
