HINDI na pinahirapan sa Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso ang Office of the Ombudsman sa pagdepensa sa kanilang budget sa susunod na taon matapos itong aprubahan nang walang pagtatanong.

Kahapon ay sumalang sa deliberasyon ng House committee on appropriations ang P4.718 Billion budget ng Office of the Ombudsman sa 2023 at agad ding tinapos.

Kasinglaki ito ng pondo ng nasabing tanggapan ngayong taon.

Bago ang presentasyon ng budget ng nasabing tanggapan, sinabi ni Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Rizaldy Co, chairman ng nasabing komite ang kahalagahan ng Office of the Ombudsman sa paglaban sa mga tiwaling opisyal ng gobyerno.

“The Office of the Ombudsman is tasked with ensuring accountability in the government, investigating complaints and cases against its officials. But as the late former President Fidel V. Ramos said, for every rotten egg in the basket of government there are many more who are honest, competent, and dedicated,” ani Co.

Matapos nito, agad na inilatag ni Assistant Ombudsman Ryan Layson kung saan at papaano gagamitin ang kanilang pondo sa 2023.

Unang sumalang sa pagtatanong si ACT party-list Rep. France Castro kung saan humingi ito ng ilang dokumento. Agad namang nagmosyon si House minority leader Marcelino Libanan na i-terminate ang pagdinig.

“Under our Constitution, the Office of Ombudsman enjoys fiscal autonomy. We respect that autonomy of the Ombudsman and therefore Mr. Chairman, on the part of the Minority and if the Majority would allow, I move to terminate the budget briefing,” ani Libanan na agad sinegundahan ni Manila Rep.
