BINALEWALA ni Nesthy Petecio ang pro-Russian crowd para talunin ang hometown bet na si Liudmila Vorontsove at ibulsa ang gold medal sa AIBA World Women’s Championships, Linggo sa UIan-Ude, Russia.

Nagtala si Petecio ng split decision win (3-2) sa kanilang featherweight class encounter at maging ikalawang Filipino athlete na naging world champion sa magkasunod na araw.

Narito ang iskor ng mga huradong pumabor kay Petecio: Australia (30-27), Korea (30-27), at Ireland (29-28). Habang ang Japan (30-27) at Argentina (29-28) naman ang pumabor sa Russian boxer.

“Nesthy deserved the win. Not only because she fought brilliantly, but also because she sacrificed so much for this,” sambit ni Alliance of Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) President Ricky Vargas matapos ang panalo ni Petecio.

Sabado ng gabi naman nang mahablot ni Carlos ‘Caloy’ Edriel Yulo ang gold medal sa 2019 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships sa Stuttgard, Germany.
