IPINAG-UTOS ng Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) sa Philippine National Police (PNP) ang pagsasagawa ng manhunt operations sa umano’y killer ng Remate columnist na si Jupiter Gonzales at kanyang kasama na si Christopher Tiongson, matapos mag-isyu ng alias warrant kamakailan ang Regional Trial Court (RTC) para sa kasong double murder.

Agad namang tumugon ang Pampanga Police Provincial Office (PPO) at nagbuo ng special tracker team para tugisin at maiharap sa korte ang akusadong si Armando Maglaya Velasco alyas “Ambet”.

Si Ambet na local carnival (perya) operator at pangunahing suspek sa twin-murder, ay inisyuhan ng alias warrant ni Judge Mary Jane Dacara Buenaventura ng Branch 43 ng RTC ng San Fernando City.

“They may run and they may hide, but the PNP will be undeterred in their duty to apprehend these criminals. There is no escaping the law especially in this Administration.” ani PTFoMS Co-Chair and Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin M. Andanar.

Sinabi naman ni PTFoMS Executive Director Undersecretary Joel Egco, isa ring veteran journalist at naging kasama ni Gonzales sa trabaho, “With the help of our dedicated police officers, the Task Force is relentless and unwavering in its quest to bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous crime against my friend and colleague, Jupiter Gonzales. Failure to arrest this criminal is not an option.”

Matatandaan, sina Gonzales at Tiongson ay binaril at napatay noong Oktubre 20, 2019, habang nasa loob ng kanilang sasakyan matapos magkaroon ng pakikipagtalo sa suspek.

Ayon kay P/Lt. Col. Eduardo S. Guevarra Jr., Arayat chief of police, matibay ang ebidensiya laban kay Velasco dahil sa narekober na mga bala mula sa biktima na nagpositibo sa isinagawang forensic examination at tumugma sa baril ng akusado.

Ang nasabing baril ay isinuko ng kamag-anak ni Velasco matapos ang pamamaslang.

Kamakailan, inanunsyo ni Egco ang pang 50th case ng media killings na nagresulta sa guilty verdict sa akusadong si Leonardo Banaag, Jr. para sa kasong murder sa Ilocos-based radio broadcaster na si Jovelito Agustin.
