PABOR ang Malakanyang sa panawagan at hakbang ng Movie, and Television Classification and Regulatory Board (MTRCB) sa streaming service Netflix na alisin ang mga episodes ng Pine Gap series na nagtatampok sa expansive nine-dash line claim ng China sa buong South China Sea.
Tinukoy ni Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque ang Netflix drama series ukol sa United States-Australia joint defense facility Pine Gap at spy work.
“Yes, we support that. MTRCB is under the Office of the President,” ayon kay Roque.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs also said that such episodes should not be aired in our country which portrays a very inaccurate scope of Chinese territory,” dagdag na pahayag ni Sec. Roque.
Habang isinusulat ito ay inalis na ng Netlfix ang Pine Gap Episodes 2 at 3 ng six-episode series.
Bukod sa Pilipinas, naghain din ng kahalintulad na reklamo ang Vietnam sa Netflix, at tinugunan din ng nasabing streaming service ang hiling ng Vietnam.
Matatandaang, ipinawalang-bisa ng The Hague-based Permanent Court of Arbitration ang nine-dash claim ng China sa South China Sea noong Hulyo 2016.
Sa kahalintulad na ruling, ipinag-utos ng The Hague court na ang Spratly Islands, Panganiban (Mischief) Reef, Ayungin (Second Thomas) Shoal, and Recto (Reed) Bank ay nasa loob ng exclusive economic zone (EEZ) ng Pilipinas.
Ang desisyon ng The Hague ay nag-ugat sa kasong isinampa ng Pilipinas noong 2013 dahil sa paulit-ulit na pananalakay ng China sa EEZ ng Pilipinas o sa 200 nautical miles off ng territorial sea gaya ng nakasaad sa ilalim ng United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. (CHRISTIAN DALE)
