Mandaluyong City. It was a glorious and exciting day for the father and son from San Pablo, Laguna, who became instant millionaires after winning the MegaLotto 6/45 jackpot prize of Php 11,631,365.60 drawn on February 27, 2023. They came to the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City the next day to claim their prize.

When interviewed, the winning numbers 25-4-11-35-15-09 were combinations of birth dates and ages of their family members. “Yun pong mga numbers na itinaya ng Daddy ko ay mga dates po ng mga birthdays po namin at age ko po which is 35”, according to the son.

Meanwhile, the father mentioned that he placed his bet on the lucky numbers twice, “Meron akong pinuntahan sa may Plaza, tumaya ako ng 1pm tapos pagbalik ko sa sasakyan ko bandang 3pm tumaya ulit ako ng parehong number. Paguwi ko sa bahay ibinigay ko sa kanya (pertaining to his son) sabi ko tig-isa tayo kapag tumama hati tayo.”

He also added that he strongly believed on the inevitable good fortune written on his horoscope for this year.

When asked about their plans on their winnings, the son quickly replied “Wala muna po sir at this time, savings muna po. Siguro pagbalik nila next year dun na po namin iisipin kung ano po gagawin sa pera but basically it is for our family’s future.”

The duo also urged the non-believers that lotto is real and thirty percent (30%) of the PCSO revenues goes to the different charitable programs of the agency, such as the Medical Access Program, Calamity Fund and the Patient Vehicle Donation Program.

Pursuant to Republic Act 1169, the lotto ticket has one (1) year validity from the date of the draw. Unclaimed prizes after one year will be forfeited to form part of PCSO Charity Fund to be used for indigents, individuals, and institutions in need of financial and medical assistance.

The MegaLotto 6/45 game is drawn every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday via live telecast on PTV-4 at 9pm.  (By: Jerwin P. Nohay / Photo by: Edwin P. Lovino)
