TINATAYANG P11 bilyong halaga ng mga pekeng signatures products gaya ng Gucci, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Nike, Rolex, Apple, Hermes, at Dior ang  sinamsam ng mga tauhan ng Bureau of Customs (BOC), sa pamamagitan ng Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD), sa isinagawang operasyon sa Binondo, Maynila kamakailan.

Ayon sa BOC, ang mga may-ari ng nasamsam na mga produkto ay binigyan ng 15-araw upang magbigay ng patunay ng pagbabayad ng tamang custom duties, buwis at ebidensya ng lehitimong pag-aangkat nito, subalit lumipas ang itinakdang deadline noong Hunyo 28, 2024.

Dahil dito, nag-isyu ng Warrant of Seizure and Detention (WSD) laban sa mga pekeng produkto alinsunod sa Seksyon 214 at 1113 ng Customs Modernization and Tariff Act na may kaugnayan sa RA No. 8293, na kilala rin bilang “Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.”

“The BOC-IPRD coordinated with brand owners to confirm that the seized items were counterfeit and infringed upon their intellectual property rights,” saad ng BOC.

Ayon sa BOC, sisirain ang nakumpiskang mga pekeng produkto upang hindi na ito mapakinabangan pa.

“We will not tolerate any form of counterfeiting,” ayon kay Deputy Commissioner Juvymax R. Uy ng BOC Intelligence Group.

“This successful operation sends a clear message to counterfeiters that we are committed in upholding the law and protecting our markets,” dagdag pa ni Uy.

Ayon naman kay BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio, “Counterfeit goods undermine legitimate businesses, leading to financial losses and weaken consumer trust. They also present health and environmental hazards and damage brands by associating them with subpar quality materials. Therefore, we remain steadfast in our efforts to combat intellectual property rights infringements.”
