NLEX Corporation said on 9 September that it is repairing sections of the expressway damaged by continuous rain.
Crews are working on the affected sections on both day and night shifts. Work this week included repairs on the North Luzon Expressway in Valenzuela City and night work on the Spur Road in Central Luzon.
The company said the current works are the first of two stages. Permanent repairs will follow once the weather improves, to ensure the quality and durability of the work.
“We are repairing the sections the rain has damaged,” NLEX Corporation said. “A permanent repair will not hold while it is still raining. So we are doing the interim repair now and the permanent repair when the weather clears.”
The repairs are part of a maintenance and safety programme expanded before this rainy season. Measures announced in June 2026 include an asphalt overlay between Ciudad de Victoria and Bocaue, drainage clearing with pumps and detention tanks at Balintawak and Paso de Blas in Valenzuela, portable flood barriers for low-lying sections, additional early-warning cameras at creek crossings, roadside shoulder drainage work, and tree-trimming. Waterway clean-up operations ran in Valenzuela, Caloocan and Manila from January to May 2026, in support of the government’s Oplan Kontra Baha programme.
Pavement repair is a standing maintenance activity across the NLEX and SCTEX network.
“The programme was scaled up in June, not this month,” NLEX Corporation said. “This is that programme working through a wetter season than it was planned for.”
