KINUMPIRMA ng pamunuan ng Philippine Army na may plano itong mag-deploy ng tropa sa Palawan bilang bahagi ng suporta sa defense objectives ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) sa West Philippine Sea.

Ayon kay Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Donald Gumiran, nasa planning stage pa lamang ang panukalang deployment ng Philippine Army unit sa Palawan.

Sa pulong-balitaan sa Officers Club sa Fort Andres Bonifacio sa Taguig City, sinabi ni Gumiran na patuloy ang koordinasyon ng Army sa Philippine Air Force, Philippine Navy at Western Command kaugnay ng plano.

“Yes, there was a plan. But, of course, nasa planning stage pa lang ‘yan. What we are doing now is continuously coordinating with the other services—the Philippine Air Force, the Philippine Navy, and even the commander of Western Command—regarding the plan of the Philippine Army to deploy a unit in the province of Palawan,” ani Gumiran.

May naunang ulat na pinag-aaralan ng Army ang deployment ng isang brigade sa Palawan, ngunit nilinaw ni Gumiran na wala pang pinal na desisyon sa ngayon.

Sinabi ng heneral na ang plano ay naaayon sa guidance ng Department of National Defense (DND) at layunin nitong suportahan ang mas malawak na defense objectives ng AFP.

“The plan is in line with the guidance of the Department of National Defense (DND) and is intended to support the broader defense objectives of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP),” ani Gumiran.

“This is always in support of the plan of our General Headquarters. This is always in support of the achievement of the objective of the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept (CADC),” dagdag pa niya.

Ang plano ay kasunod ng pahayag ni dating Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Roy Galido noong Hunyo 2025 na handa ang Hukbong Katihan na magtalaga ng mga tauhan sa mga Philippine-occupied features sa Kalayaan Island Group (KIG).

Kabilang sa mga Philippine-occupied features sa KIG ang Pag-asa Island, Parola Island, Lawak Island, Kota Island, Likas Island, Panata Island, Patag Island, Ayungin Shoal at Rizal Reef.

Gayunman, nilinaw ni Gumiran na ang kasalukuyang pinag-aaralang deployment ay nakatuon sa Palawan at wala pang ibang lugar sa West Philippine Sea na may planong pagtalagahan ng iba pang Army unit.

“Initially, ang plan is that we will deploy an Army unit sa Palawan. So, sa Palawan po yung deployment natin as planned. There are no other areas in the West Philippine Sea na kung saan may plano tayo na mag-deploy pa ng other Army units,” ani Gumiran.

Ayon sa kanya, magiging bahagi ang deployment ng suporta ng Philippine Army sa comprehensive archipelagic defense operations ng AFP at sa pagpapatupad ng layunin ng General Headquarters kaugnay ng CADC.
