HINDI dapat maantala kundi mas mapabilis pa ang impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte sakaling magkaroon ng pagbabago sa iskedyul nito, ayon kay House lead prosecutor at Batangas 2nd District Rep. Gerville Luistro.
“Let us remember that the mandate of the Constitution that is to be forthwith is not only with respect to the convening of the impeachment court. It says, ‘trial forthwith’,” pahayag ni Rep. Luistro sa isang press conference.
“In other words, by trial, we mean presentation of evidence, presentation of witnesses. If ever there will be changes to July 6, it should be earlier and not later,” dagdag pa nito.
Inilabas ni Luistro ang pahayag kasunod ng mga ulat na may mga talakayan sa Senado hinggil sa muling pagbuhay sa imbestigasyon sa flood control controversy na posibleng makaapekto umano sa kalendaryo ng impeachment proceedings.
Gayunman, tiniyak ng mambabatas na nananatiling nakatutok ang 11-member prosecution panel sa pagtupad sa kanilang tungkulin sa ilalim ng Konstitusyon.
“Of course there are always apprehensions, but nonetheless, liwanagin natin. Ang constitutional duty ng House is to present the evidence,” ani Rep. Luistro.
Inamin din ni Luistro na may pangamba silang muling maantala ang proseso sa pamamagitan ng mga procedural moves gaya ng remand o tuluyang pag-archive ng articles of impeachment.
“We’re acknowledging the possibility. But we are more inclined to be more positive and forward-looking this time dahil nag-convene naman ang impeachment court,” saad nito.
Umaasa rin si Luistro na matutuloy ang mga petsang lumabas sa media partikular ang Hunyo 15 para sa pre-trial conference at Hulyo 6 para sa pormal na pagsisimula ng paglilitis.
“We look forward na sana itong mga dates na lumalabas sa media, the June 15 pre-trial conference, the July 6 first schedule of trial, sana magtuloy-tuloy na because this is what the constitutional mandate provides,” ayon pa kay Rep. Luistro.
Nilinaw naman ng House lead prosecutor na hanggang sa kasalukuyan ay wala pa silang natatanggap na opisyal na abiso mula sa Senate impeachment court hinggil sa eksaktong iskedyul ng proceedings.
“Regardless of the timeline, I am more concerned about the official notice which we are supposed to receive from the impeachment court. To this date, wala pa po kaming natatanggap na official notice,” dagdag nito.
