Ang salitang betrayal ay madalas mabanggit sa balita, kongreso at pahayagan. Marahil dahil sa pag-akusa kay VP Sara Duterte ng betrayal of public trust.
Ang betrayal na ang ibig sabihin ay pagtataksil, pagtalikod sa napagkasunduan o paniniwala. Ito’y nagaganap sa friends, family, politics, public trusts, faith, ideologies, principles, treaties, pacts and works. It happened noon at ngayon. Betrayal is good, kung ibuko ang mga katiwalian. Definitely, betrayal is not good sa good ones being betrayed. Wika ni Haring David, “Attacked by enemies is better than betrayal of friends”.
Historically, Julius Caesar was betrayed by his ally’s senate and stabbed him. Hitler, after two years of signing Nazi Germany and Soviet Union aggression pact, Hitler violated it. Mussolini, voted to be removed by his allies in the Fascist Grand Council. Mao Zedong, betrayed humanity in place of ideology. Japan while negotiating with the Americans attacked Pearl Harbor.
In the Bible, we know Jesus was betrayed by Judas for 30 silvers of coins (Matthew 26:48). Samson by Delilah, Joseph, “The dreamer” was sold by his brothers, and King David betrayed by his close friends.
Sa ating bansa, Bonifacio-Luna was betrayed by co-leaders of Katipuneros. Sa panahon ng Hapon, ang Makapili o Makabayang Katipunan ng mga Pilipino betrayed guerrilla fighters. Marcos-Enrile-Ramos, Erap-Singson and Congress changes of leadership betraying their friend’s legislator for their own interest. Jailed President Rodrigo Duterte betrayed our sovereignty na dapat depensahan ang West Philippine Sea.
But the good news, mga kabayan, we have a friend who sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18;24). He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrew 13.5; Joshua 1:8). He will never betray us. Even Lord Jesus told a thief in the cross that he will be with him in paradise. (giv777@myyahoo.com)
